..CEO Lee Hammond of the Accreditation Service for International Colleges (ASIC), and his family, including his loving wife Joanne (daughter of Khun Maurice Dimmock), 10-year-old Libby, and 5-year-old Lucy, for representing the Rose Education Foundation in visiting Sotpattana School for the Deaf and handing Rev. Michael Weera Phangrak the GBP13,308 cheque from his recent charity cycling on the famous LEJOG route, i.e. from the very bottom of England in Land’s End right to the tip of Scotland in John o’Groats, with over 950 miles coverage within 9 days, in support of the children’s hearing aids. Special thanks to Ashley Musgrave of Chartam Business School, Dr. Ibrahim of ABMS Switzerland, Ian Pirie of Kensington College of Business, and Pamela Parkinson of London Academy of Dressmaking & Design, for their contributions to Lee’s efforts.  The Hammonds also brought along another special donation of Disney-theme blankets from Dorothy & Con Kelly in Scotland, who donated their collection of over 300 Disney beanies to our children in November 2013.. We took the opportunity to celebrate Lee’s 39th birthday anniversary with a party, cake, refreshments, and games with the deaf and orphaned kids.. 2nd Healthy Kids Program

With the aim to constantly promote good health of our children, Sotpattana School for the Deaf held another program on Health Kids, especially for their oral health, when four 6th year students of dental surgery at the University of Bordeaux, France, visited them today. Along with pre-school kids of the Pattaya Orphanage, the 32 students of our School learned about oral hygiene, the correct way to brush their teeth, and foods that are appropriate and those that are not. The dentists-to-be also gave all the kids fluoride coating. Our grateful thanks to the visitors and companies that gave complimentary toothbrushes, toothpaste, rubber gloves, and fluoride coating sets.

Banana Tree & Sheep Farm

In order to complete the weekly theme and local curriculum on “Banana Tree,” Sotpattana School for the Deaf brought students to the Royal Thai Navy’s New Theory Learning Center, in the Naval Recruit Training Center, Sattahip, to see the real plants. The keen learners have also seen many other plants and animals, each of them having the opportunity to grow a potted plant, and some adventurous ones riding a water buffalo.. On the way back, the group visited the Swiss Sheep Farm Pattaya to get to know more animals..

Religious Practice & Thai Culture

Throughout the week, students at Sotpattana School for the Deaf have learned about Buddhist Lent and took part in the preparation of offerings the monks. Then this morning, some of the children dressed up in Thai costumes, while others in flowery tops, and traveled with their teachers, along with preschoolers and teachers of the Pattaya Orphanage, to Nong Or monastery in Central Pattaya to present the Lenten candle and offerings to the abbot and monks. Our children not only learned about religious practice on an auspicious occasion, but also conserved Thai cultural heritage and traditions.
